Anonymous,

I didn't know it was illegal to hail a cab in Hoboken. It's a shame that a cabbie on his way back to the PATH can't pick me up and earn an extra fare on the way - that's city hall for you, I guess.

I will admit that I, on occasion, have been treated differently from what I spoke about in the posting but 95% of my rides are highly enjoyable. The only "hill" I know about in Hoboken is the one on Castle Point Terrace where the frats houses are for Stevens Tech and I can see why you would be frustrated when not driven there as expected. You are right to be upset when that happens; even if its harder for the cab to get back to the PATH, the cabbie should take you to where you want to go - no matter where or what time.

On those rare times I have been mistreated by a driver I usually don't pay him. The worst he can do is call the police on me - something I'm sure he doesn't want to do.

It's illegal to hail a cab in Hoboken.

I must disagree with your opinion. I haven't taken a cab in Hoboken many times, but I've done it more than enough for my tastes. I've had cabbies cram more than three people into a cab that wasn't pleasant, forcing a person to pay five dollars to sit on the hump, and get very intimate with two complete strangers. In addition, the reason for taking a cab is to get there fast. I've been in a cab where the stops were so far spaced that I might as well have just walked (an 9 block drive in half an hour?)The last cab ride I took was when my driver refused to drive up the hill to drop me off at my door two blocks away. I'm not paying five dollars to walk up the hill that i took a cab specifically to avoid!!
No, I must say Hoboken Cabs are defintely not worth the cost.
